Phone calls need to be made

LOCAL NEWS
Mayor Mayson Foster of Hammond, had decided to try and crowbar more money out of the citizens using the franchise contract negotiations with Entergy Louisiana. He is proposing that Cleco come in, mainly because Cleco pays 4% franchise fee over Entergy’s 2%. Which they pass right on to the customers. So, for the customer Entergy is cheaper right off the bat and certainly handles the restoration after a storm MUCH better than Cleco does.

Typical politician, sticking it to the citizens for their agenda. As a matter of fact, the Mayor has the authority to up the rate 2% and get that money anyway. But, that would be transparent that HE is the one taxing the citizens. The city council majority is against this and the Mayor is not even keeping them in the loop anymore. The 2 councilmen who are not firmly against it are Kathy Monteciono and Tony Licciardi.

Kathy has an agenda of her own (a children’s museum) which she either doesn’t realize on doesn’t care that Entergy has several hundred employee’s temporarily located in Hammond, and is ramping up to add more employees on a permanent basis.

All of this is going on during a time when this Fortune 500 Company is trying to decide which direction they are heading and what their presence in Louisiana needs to be. It sure would be another black eye for our state to have politicians bleed citizens again.

I urge you to call these people and tell them not to doom us with higher rates.

Tony Licciardi 985-345-6260
Kathy Monteciono 985-429-0211

Also, call these Councilmen and thank them for their resolve to stand against the Mayors diabolical plans.

Now on with the show…

NATIONAL NEWS
Let's noodle this illegal immigration thing through for a minute. Why are these gate-crashers coming to America? Well, because nobody's stopping them, of course, but why do they want to be here? Hint: It's not to worship God as they chose, nor is it to have the right to free speech. It's economics. They come here because they have little hope of improving their lives where they live. History shows that free enterprise and capitalism do more to lift people out of despair and poverty than any other economic system. In spite of the best efforts of the socialist left in this country, free enterprise still pretty much powers our growing economy. Our low unemployment rate is the envy of the rest of the world.

Some 36,000 students...most of which probably wanted nothing more than to have the day off...skipped class and marched through downtown Los Angeles yesterday. Their cause? According to the mainstream media, they were protesting an immigration bill in Congress. How many of those 36,000 students do you suppose have read the immigration bill that has them so upset? Not many, I would guess.

Here's a nice little story of eminent domain for you. The mayor of a very rich small town on Long Island wants to steal a private golf club through eminent domain. The goal here is to make this private golf club his small town's "public" golf course.

Can you believe something like this could happen in America? Well, it could! Another freakin mayor with a greedy agenda. Politicians are goofy.

NRA gets something done in New Orleans

NRA And New Orleans Reach Agreement OnReturn Of Firearms Confiscated During Katrina Read about it here

I am so glad this has come about. I wish they would have pressed harder. And isn't it funny that we don't hear about this in the news. People, the government beat people up and took their guns for NO REASON!!! This scares the crap out of me. Stormtroppers are at the door.

TALK ABOUT INCOMPETENCE
Now here's a story you aren't going to read in many of our nations top newspapers. And why not? Because it makes our New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin to be a complete idiot, that's why not.

Here's the story, fresh from Monday night's Special Report with Brit Hume. Read this and you will know why Democrats and liberals just flat-out don't like Brit Hume or Fox News Channel.

Texas based car crushing company. Offered to remove all abandoned and flooded vehicles from New Orleans and dispose of them. K&L Auto Crushers said it would take 15 weeks to finish the job. This offer was made last October. K&L also offered to pay the city of New Orleans $100 for each car that they removed. How many cars needed removing, you ask? About 50,000. At $100 each, that adds up to a payment to the city of $5 million. Not bad. So ... did Ray Nagin take the deal? Nope. Instead of taking the offer from K&L, Ray Nagin is pursing a car removal plan that will take six months to complete, not 15 weeks, and will cost the city of New Orleans -- make that the taxpayers of New Orleans -- $23 million. Nagin balked at the K&L offer because he wasn't sure that the city had the legal right to accept the offer although there was a clear city ordinance that allowed just such a thing. So, add it up. Take the $5 million New Orleans could have had from K&L Auto Crushers and add it to the $23 million the city will spend to get rid of the cars, and you have a total cost to the taxpayers of $28 million.
Last night Hume also reminded us that Ray Nagin failed to order a full mandatory evacuation of New Orleans as Katrina was bearing down because he feared that the hospitality industry would sue the city if the people all left and the hurricane didn't hit. If there is one certainty in life is is that if Ray Nagin were a Republican mayor the media in this country would be clamoring for his head. Nagin gets a relative pass. There will be no 60 Minutes documentary profiling his incompetence.

By the way, Ray Nagin thinks he should be reelected.

Yet another case for the FairTax plan:
the IRS is going to allow tax preparers to sell your private information. Remember, if we instituted the FairTax plan, there would be no IRS and thus no information to sell.

Dear Internal Revenue Service:

Yay!!! Tuesday.

We had some riots in France yesterday. The rioters wee students at dozens of French universities where, by the way, the principle pursuit is a degree in government dependency with a minor in social welfare state management. The controversy is something called the First Employment Contract. This is a new law that allows employers to hire young people under the age of 26.

France has a big problem with youth unemployment. The unemployment rate for young people in France is 23%. In some high-immigration (read Muslim) neighborhoods the rate is 40 percent. Why? Because once you hire them it takes a constitutional amendment, permission from the European Union, a bad year for Bordeaux and a total eclipse of the sun to fire them, no matter how incompetent, stupid or lazy they prove to be. Employers don't like to hire unproven workers when they can't later get rid of them ... so the younger workers go unemployed.

Professional wacko Pat Robertson may actually be getting something right this week. He calls radical Muslims "satanic." Some people will no doubt be offended. It's a good thing Al-Jazeera doesn't carry The 700 Club.

Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona says the federal government is failing to control the borders. Unfortunately, he will be one of the most ignored politicians in the entire Congress.
Neither party has any intention of stemming the flow of illegal aliens.

Media 'Ignorant' of Muslims (Chicago Sun Times)
How would Americans really feel about Islam if the media decided to keep it real?

Illegals in New Orleans, GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!!!

FEELING SAFE YET?
Right now, the general consensus is that illegal immigration is out of control. Border states like California and New Mexico are bearing the brunt of the huge influx. The costs come in crime, welfare benefits and the possibility of terrorism. We now have a new study today tells us just how bad the problem is.

According to the Pew Hispanic Center (who knew Pew had a Hispanic Center?) there are between 11.5 and 12 million illegal aliens in the United States right now. And what's worse...the number is increasing by 500,000 a year. So where is the problem coming from?

The government talks about either safety from terrorism [R] or helping out the American masses [D] but, neither one of these groups really cares. As long as they get their money they drum up all kinds of things for us to be focused on except the real issues. Figures up your Taxes yet this year? Add in the FICA/Social Security, the 22% embedded tax at the point of sale and state taxes and you have more than half your WAGES going to government. No, you will not get your social security back so stop telling yourself that lie.

Yet, with this windfall of free money they cannot keep the illegal aliens out or deport them. I am not against immigration, but there is a legal way to do it. I can point to some if the cops cannot find them. Then you get the 'It isn't our job' from the police. WHAT???!!! ILLEGAL activity is your job. If I had ILLEGAL substance you would arrest me. They have ILLEGAL existence, arrest them.

Here is How They 'Fix' the problem
Congress is developing a new "solution" for illegal aliens. Michelle Malkin says this time it involves giving illegals "gold cards" that would make them eligible for two-year work visas. How about just sending them home?

Terrorist Activity

Not only does the mainstream media rarely use the phrase "Islamic terrorist," they actually cover for the terrorists. As Tony Blankley points out, they rarely point out radical Islamic events.

Hamas, as you know, is now the ruling party in the so-called Palestinian territories. Hamas is now in control of the Palestinian Authority. You might be interested to know that Hamas has now launched a website for children. No Barney. No stories of fluffy little bunnies, and certainly no version of the Three Little Pigs. No --- the Hamas children's website features cartoons and children's stories that tell of the wonderful greatness of becoming a suicide bomber. In one story a mother overhears her son talking about becoming a suicide bomber. She is so happy, so elated that she starts handing out presents to her friends and neighbors. I doubt you can read the text, but here's your link to the website. Note, please, the young girl using her slingshot to presumably attack some Jews. Remember, though, that according to most of Europe and the United Nations, it is Israel, not the murderous Palestinians, who are the source of all of the problems in the Middle East, if not the world.

Terrorism from our Government
News from the world of eminent domain abuse today. This comes to us from North Hills, Long Island. Located there is the Deepdale golf course. It is considered one of the best in the country, with many celebrities often in attendance. But guess what.

North Hills Mayor Marvin Natiss has decided to begin a study of the possibility of taking over the golf course. That's right...They are just thinking they might steal it. Why? Because it would be a nice amenity for the homeowners there...Would drive up home values and...You guessed it...Increase taxes collected.

The schools in New Orleans are getting back to normal...And that's actually bad news. The schools were terrible pre-Katrina...And the teacher's unions are no help at all. Big surprise there, right?

Ash Wednesday

In Christianity, Lent is a time of penance, prayer, preparation for or recollection of baptism, and preparation for the celebration of Easter Ash Wednesday in the Western Church, the first day of Lent, being the seventh Wednesday before Easter. On this day ashes are placed on the foreheads of the faithful to remind them of death, of the sorrow they should feel for their sins, and of the necessity of changing their lives. The practice, which dates from the early Middle Ages, is common among Roman Catholics, Anglicans and Episcopalians, and many Lutherans; it was also adopted by some Methodists and Presbyterians in the 1990s.

So -- New Orleans has had its Mardi Gras celebration. It was a grand symbol of renewal and regeneration for a devastated city. Fat Tuesday is over, the revelers are gone, and guess what? The whiners who didn't want the celebration to happen in the first place are now going to have to find something else to bitch about. These poor, miserable people who just didn't think that it was very nice for the people of New Orleans to have their celebration while they were still recovering from the hurricane will head out today to find something else to be miserable over. This is the way they have always been, and shall always be.

Violence begets Violence
Today comes news that two security guards were shot at a concert in London by rapper Kanye West. Evidently an altercation took place after somebody tried to get in without a ticket....whatever. The point is this: why is it that the only time you hear of violence at a concert is when it involves rappers? When's the last time somebody got shot at say...a Barry Manilow concert? (We're not counting suicides, either.)

THE PORTS
The CEO of Dubai Ports World testified in front of the Senate yesterday, saying his company wasn't taking over or buying the ports...just merely operating them. Right. So they're not taking them over...just....taking them over.

Meanwhile, the parent company of Dubai Ports World officially boycotts Israel. So we'd be turning over operation of our ports to Islamic fanatics that oppose one of our allies in the Middle East and one of the few democracies there. Good move! It should come as no surprise that the Anti-Defamation League opposes the deal.

WOW!
Walter E. Williams reminds everybody that the word "democracy" appears neither in The Declaration of Independence, nor the U.S. Constitution. In fact, he says that the United States isn't a democracy and that Iraq shouldn't be one either.

HIGHER LEARNING?
Professor David Bernstein has been following the American Bar Association's latest idiocy--requiring law schools to be "diverse" in both student body and faculty--even when this requires the law schools to violate state laws. (You know: those benighted, backward places like California that have prohibited racial discrimination in college admissions, to the horror of liberals everywhere.)

You know back when S.I. Hayakawa was one of California's U.S. Senators (back when Californians could send a Republican to the U.S. Senate--long, long ago), he used to tell a joke that he claimed showed the difference in philosophy between a Republican and a Democrat.

A man is 100 feet out in a lake, thrashing about, yelling for help. "I can't swim, I'm drowning help me!"

The Republican would come along with a 50 foot length of rope, throw one end to the man, and tell him, "You'll have to swim half the distance; it'll do you some good to be part of the process."

The Democrat woudl come along with a 200 foot coil of rope, throw the entire coil to the man, and then run off to do another good deed."

As with many such jokes, it exaggerates on both sides for effect. But affirmative action, to the extent that it has become a racial preference system in college admissions completely divorced from questions such as, "Will this student be adequately prepared for this university's requirements?" is throwing a 200 foot coil of rope.

As Professor McCaskle points out, the costs of that coil of rope is coming from taxpayers and from the black community.

Maybe we need to fix the problem of inferior primary and secondary schools?
